Run Basics

Of the three disciplines, running is easily the most accessible for newcomers. Whether it be a weekend 5k or your local park, opportunities generally abound to both practice and compete as a runner. It’s also the discipline that most allows you to choose your own adventure. Experts aren’t totally on the same page regarding how much training should be speedwork vs distance; but generally, as it concerns your kids, the right answer will always be whatever makes them happy to continue to running. The answer will often change over time. In short, whatever will have your kids running happily and consistently, do that – whether it be alone or with a group.

If none of these options work for you, our Places to Run section is website filled with free and low-cost training options. We also have some sample Run Workouts for you to try.

Places to Run

The beauty of running is that you do not need the perfect location to make it happen. Whether it be in your neighborhood, or in a public park, you don’t need a lot of time or public space to make it happen.

That said, there are some very good free and low-cost options at your disposal, which you may not know about.
