Draft Legal Races
The Live Red Foundation is the Virginia nonprofit that hosts the East Coast Triathlon Festival,
one of the finest youth triathlons in the country. They were a great resource for us in creating
FYT and provided us with a lot of practical advice along the way.
They also publish a Youth Draft Legal Race Guide, which does an excellent job summarizing
nearly everything you’d need to know about the various races in the draft legal series and the
High Performance Squads (HPS) that compete in them.
Though this site was designed with 12 and under triathletes in mind, it is worth exploring the
races listed in that guide. In addition to the draft legal events, nearly all feature races for
younger age divisions as well. These races tend to be the most fun and best organized youth
triathlons in the country. If you’ve ever considered leaving the state for a race, they are worth a
look.
